City of Londonderry Orange Widows Fund

Aims of the Fund

The object of the fund being to endeavor to alleviate some hardships encountered by the widows or dependants of deceased brethren within the jurisdiction of the City of Londonderry Grand Lodge.

 

Income

It is envisaged that every member of the City of Londonderry Grand Orange Lodge would be a contributor to the fund. We are also extremely grateful to all those that have contributed via Orange Lodges, Royal Arch Purple Chapters, Royal Black Preceptory, collection boxes and Church services.  

 

Grants

Over the past years, widows and dependants have received a sum at Christmas.

Aims of the Society

The relief of poverty for members of the Loyal Orange Institution of Ireland and the Association of Loyal Orangewomen in Ireland who are in necessitous circumstances by offering means-tested grants.

​

​Income

Income is raised through donations from Lodges and Preceptories, church services, gift-aid and investment income.

 

Grants

There are five categories of grant:

​

Emergency Grant:
In cases of bereavement of a member with dependent children, or the death of a member’s child under the age of 18.

 

Special Grant:
This one-off grant may be paid to a member whose child, under the age of 18, requires specialist equipment or treatment due to a disability or illness. Or to a member in necessitous circumstances.
 

Annual Grant:
This quarterly means-tested grant gives support to an incapacitated or deceased member's family who have children under the age of 18.

 

Bursary Grant:
This means-tested grant may be paid to a young person, between the ages of 18 -24 years who is in further education for a minimum of 10 hours per week and either of whose parents / legal guardians, are members, being incapacitated or deceased.

Members' Grant:
This means-tested grant is available to a member aged over 18, who is in full-time education, for a minimum of 10 hours per week.
